Problem with laptop wireless connection

I've been helping a friend in connecting his laptop, a Fujitsu Amilio, to the internet wirelessly.

He has a Wanadoo (Orange) Livebox at home, and another at work. He wants the laptop to connect to both. Both Liveboxes have WPA Only security, and they do have different SSID's and different WPA codes. The laptop has Windows XP SP2 on it.

I connected the laptop to his home Livebox, its SSID was detected, I entered the WPA key etc. This connection worked okay. I then connected the laptop to his work Livebox in the same way. This didn't work at first, but after a reboot of the Livebox, it did connect.

The problem is that is then wouldn't connect to his home Livebox, despite the wireless network still being there in the list of Preferred Networks. It "sees" the wireless network, then goes through the routine of Acquiring Network Address, then it *seems* to connect for a second, as the Internet Gateway appears under Network Connections. Then the connection drops, and the loop is repeated. It will not connect automatically no-matter how long you give it.

After messing about, re-entering the WPA code in both the Preferred Networks connection, and directly in the Wireless Network Detection Wizard, I got it to connect. Then, yep you've guessed right, it wouldn't connect automatically to his works Livebox.

I have tried disabling the Windows Firewall, just in case this is the cause, but no. Again, if I play about re-entering the WPA code, it will eventually connect, but then fails in the other location.

I've searched the net and found loads of people with the Acquiring Network Address loop problem, but they appear to not be able to get any connection. I can always get one to work, and it continues to work on that one connection.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Re: Problem with laptop wireless connection

There are two buttons on the underside of the livebox and there is a sequence they need to be pressed in so you can 'pair' the wireless network, only when it's in pair mode can you actually make the first connection

It's a kind of MAC filtering.

A search on google should sort it out for you

Okay got it working. As I had got the laptop running on the works Livebox, I then deleted the home Livebox connection from the list of preferred networks. Then it recognised the home connection but would not connect. I entered the WPA code when asked, then followed the above instructions. It connected and continues to connect at both locations without a problem.

Thanks very much
