Gecube HD 2400 256MB

Zing found me this card for my old PC
Link To Ebuyer
Link To Gecube

Am going to order this but the pc only has a AGP 4x socket. Will this AGP 8x card work with AGP 4x socket?

On the Gecube website it says

I have searched the internet and i cannot find any reference to this anywhere. Just want to make sure that i do not waste my money, Thanks

nick, most of the AGP 8x units are backwards compatible with AGP 4x.

but please dont quote me on this as that info I'm not 100% on.... but afaik it should work.

Same voltage, just half the bandwidth. That's all the differences... Hmmm, should work in my opinion mate, all my AGP 8x cards over the years did in my old test mobo :)

Will that GFX work on my Athlon 1600+ (1.4GHz) 768MB ram 4xAGP slot?
I spent...£37 on a 9550 256MB card couple of months ago, please tell me I wont see any significant improvement if I buy that card. :S

HSH, you would notice some improvement on the 2400 card, it has a better/faster chip on it then the 9550 or even say the 9800 gt.

so yes you would see some but tbh I wouldnt spend anything on that system of yours...I dont know what you do with it but I would save some pennies and look for an upgrade.

Its still not a gaming card I pointed Nick to it purely cuz it was a newer card and in his budget. I would not ever recommend a card like this if you expect it to play games at all. As a means of getting an image on the screen its ok

From the Gecube site

Quote:

Product Description
  • The ATI Radeon™ HD 2400PRO is a feature-rich upgrade from integrated graphics for an immersive experience with DirectX® 10 gaming and HD video to enjoy Blu-ray™ and HD DVD movies instantly. ATI Catalyst™ graphics configuration software is designed for quick setup and stable operation with Windows Vista™. The ideal solution for upgrade for the old existing AGP 4x/8x system.

as you yourself pointed out so it did answer your question. AFAIK all 8x agp cards work on 4x systems. If it does not work then its not fit for purpose and you will get a refund
