If only all OS installs where this easy...
 

Getting 4gb of ram so thought I'd better go 64bit.

Haven't done windows yet but I thought i'd start with Kubuntu.

I did what jdong suggested by typing
sudo dpkg --get-selections > selections.txt

Copied my home dir to another partition.

installed ubuntu64 (yes I downloaded the wrong cd :rolleyes:)
Copied my Home dir back.

ran the following commands

sudo dpkg --set-selections < selections.txt
sudo apt-get dselect-upgrade

Only thing I had to do otherwise was recompile the themes I had sert since they were compiled for the 32bit version but that was a simple case of going into the folder (lucky i still had the downloads, running the following

make clean
./configure
make
make install
)

Voilla done... Only thing is I now have gnome and related apps where I forgot to select Kubuntu before starting the download :dunce:

I installed Ubuntu on an old machine about a month ago. The install asked me 5 questions and about 45 minutes later I logged in, fired up Firefox and started browsing.

Then a couple of weeks ago I updated to a new version. It took about half an hour to download - even on VM :) - and about an hour to install and voila.

Pah... Can do Mac OSX install in about 5 mouse clcks.

I've got a flunky to do my installs - I just point and he goes off and installs it for me.

Considering after reinstalling with 64bit I basicly only had to put in 2 commands and all the programs I had on my previous installation, settings.etc where back (with the execption of a couple of themes) yes I'd call that easy :p:

Where as the migration from 32bit to 64bit windows is going to be a case of reinstalling any apps had on thre since its impossible to do an upgrade from 32 > 64

(actually i'm probably going to keep a 32bit xp install for a couple older games)
