DV or USB

Hi

Just a quick question what are the advantages of using a DV cable to transfer video footage from a DV Camcorder to my PC over USB. As i am thinking of getting a Firewire pci card to transfer videos and just wanted to make sure that it was worth it.. Thanks in advance

Although USB2 peaks higher than firewire (but not firewire 800) the sustained throughput on fire wire is usually better

the cards are cheap enough :)

P.s I just hit the first one i saw on buy it now look around before committing to a purchase.

The cheapest 1394b [800] card I could find is this 1 at Maplin.

I do this quite frequently over firewire and have never had a problem.

Not sure about your camcorder & software, but I know my JVC miniDV cam only allows stills to be transfered by USB - video must be copied by firewire. Have you actually tried downloading via USB yet?

I would recommend firewire everytime. It was designed for video transfer, and, as stated before can sustain a higher speed. We have Sony camcorders at work that do output video via USB, but they lower the resolution of the video to do so.
