Remote Assistance

Hi,

A friend would like to see me work on some files, to see how to do it etc... so we decided to use Remote Assistance via MSN Messenger, but it fails.
I was asking for Remote Assistance, so they could see me work

I am running XP Home SP2 with a software firewall and a Linksys Router, I am not sure if I need to set anything up on the router.
The other person is using Vista Ultimate
We have tried Remote Assistance both ways but it fails.

Could someone tell me how to set it up ?
Also is there any other way to use Remote Assistance without MSN Messenger ?

Re: Remote Assistance

You can initiate Remote Assistance via the Help and Support Center.

Also, there seems to be a bug in Messenger that means, with XP users, an XP user can only ask you for help, you cant offer help to an XP user, or ask them for help.

Hi,

Do I need to open any Ports on my router ?

Re: Remote Assistance

Yes you do, on most routers there should be a predefined rule for Remote Assistance/Remote Desktop/MSRDP, can't remember the port off the top of my head, google will though :)

Why not just have them install logmein?

Why bother installing when you get something in the box?

Hi,

We have already tried Teamviewer 3 and with talking over Skype I think it was having issues, it wasn't stable.

So that why I was thinking of Remote Assistance

I have done a further Google and found out it is port 3389
