Cool :)
Any major changes, apart from built-in Compiz Fusion? |
Re: Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Released Today
Have they fixed the issues with it locking up solid every so often and taking ages to boot compared to the last version?

Re: Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Released Today
Does the shagged serverage extend to people upgrading an installation? I might dig out my old *ahem* work laptop, which has Ubuntu on at the moment.

Power up Ubuntu then System > Administration > Update Manager It will tell you New Distribution '7.10' is available Just click 'Upgrade' then find something to do for an hour or so. Last time I used this method it seemed to take forever to upgrade. Maybe it's my PC that's not up to it or maybe my broadband is not broad enough. Nowadays when I upgrade I download the iso by torrent and wipe the partition and do a clean install. PS This is where to get the torrent from :- http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ (At the bottom of the page) |

Pause the download (not sure if you have to do this to modify it) then right click on it and click properties, then you should get a dialogue box up, One of the tabs there allows you to add mirrors |
Re: Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Released Today
I run through the upgrade this morning before work after updating existing stuff the previous night.
Downloaded the 1.3GBs in around 10 mins then froze trying to update libgcc. At lunch I killed the update processes and restarted them. Took a little while to get the version list etc and change repositories, then noted it already had the files and started to upgrade. Now when I get home, if it rebooted I'll be in SuSE 10.2 (I don't use grub/lilo in Kubuntu). Maybe tweak the relevant version of menu.lst and see what happens. |
