In fairness, while it is expensive, I think they are marketing it at corporate users, and particularly those with large (>100 gig) databases.

maybe for a smallish drive just large enough to hold the Os

In fairness I paid £70 for 512kb memory many years back so in time this will come down in price. Once the high end users have bought enough to make larger scale production viable this will start to enter the main stream.
