Router problem arrhhh Yo all. Have a 'NTL' cable modem. Have a Netgear router WNR834B Have two laptops - running windows vista... Both laptops connect by wireless connection - up to last night at least.... Now I have not changed anything .. but I can not connect to the router with either computer. The network settings can see the router, the signal is OK - but when I try to connect it says 'can not connect'. When I look at the diagnostics it says 'Router may be too far away or hidden'. It says this for both PC's. Rebooted cable modem and router - no change. Can connect to the modem directly - so that side of things works. At least one laptop has connected (this morning) to my work network so I know its wireless settings work. Any ideas? 1) I thought I might try a hard reset of router back to factory settings (as a last resort?). 2) I did not there are a lot of wireless connections in the road where we live - therefore wondered if I should try changing the channel? 3) Is there anything that NTI / Virgin could have done to the cable modem (speed / firmware update etc) that could effect how the router works? Any help appreciated. rgs MArk |

Re: Router problem arrhhh ... and everything works as it should? |

Re: Router problem arrhhh Yes ..everything works directly connected to the router - I can also login to the router that way too. Internet is fine. Its just getting a connection between router and PC on wireless (which was working up until yesterdayn evening). rgs MArk |

Re: Router problem arrhhh I'd suggest you try option 2 first. There may be other signals on this current channel that are confusing the issue. |

Re: Router problem arrhhh Hi All thanks for advice thus far. Very strange now ... just got home and it connects fine by wireless. But for a 20MBit service I can only download at 1Mbit ... so something is still up ..??!! |

Re: Router problem arrhhh Hi All Thanks for the feedback - it is all now working and at 20MBit ... but I am not really sure what bit of all this was not working - modem, router, PC or even the ISP ... but so far its working as far as I can see. regards Mark |
