Speed Upgrade, now Router Doesnt Work !?
Hi guys, im in a real tricky situation.
My mom had her internet speed upgraded, and now the internet will only work when its just going throught the modem. If you plug the router in (D-Link DI-524) it configures everything fine with the PC, or so it looks. When you look at the lights in the modem (the black WebStar one) when the router is plugged in,the "Recieve" light NEVER comes on. So i decided to take the router over to my house, i am also on Virgin 20meg, and it works absolutely fine on my connection, wired and wireless. So i think hey, maybe its a hiccup, so i take it back to my moms and plug it all in, and hey presto, exactly the same problem as before. So what do you guys reccomend, because i am pretty sure it must be a problem it the modem. Thanks in advance, Tom |

You don't mention much about what you've tried already, so this may be redundant, but have you tried power-cycling (rebooting) the cable modem?
The normal routine ie power everything off, power on cable modem and allow to stabilise, power on router ditto, then pc.. |

Re: Speed Upgrade, now Router Doesnt Work !?
Right guys, cheers for the help so far, i think we are getting somewhere. I have been playing with the settings, and we can get it working now, but everytime we reboot it stops working.
Then i play about in the Router settings, and it starts working randomly again, and i really dont know what is making it work all of a sudden. |
Re: Speed Upgrade, now Router Doesnt Work !?
It sounds like, for some reason, the router isn't synchronising with the modem. Might be as simple as trying a different ethernet cable between the modem and router? Alternatively the router might have options in it's setup to allow control of the ethernet port where you can try changes to the port's duplex options i.e. 100 mbps full or half?
