Whats next then?

Ive heard of something called Matrix Definition, but dunno how legit that is, so what is the next step going to be, in which manufacturers will seem to point all consumers to spend vast amounts of their money to in a few years?

1080p resolution needs a screen size of over 42in to be useful, most HD screens are 720 line displays, just like SD is good up to 28in or so.

That sounds great, but 30,000 hours or life? Dunno how thats going to work, especially at the price!

EDIT: then again, after doing the math, it comes up at about 3 and a half years, so that would be alright.

The UHDV looks very interesting... I wonder how long before it gets over here... and at what price.

Id probably think before 2010, about 2009, at a price of about £3000-£4000 at the start...

That is 3.5 years continuous, so about 14 years of real use.
UHD based on HD that will be here in about 2030! When they have a new codec to broadcast terabytes of tv signal!

Ultra high definition at this point in time is crazy seeing as we dont really have still cameras that can produce 32mp images let alone motion cameras.
So forget 1-2 years try 10-15+

Somthing much nearer to date though is Quad high definition (QHD) its 3840x2160 which is exactly double the resolution of 1080p in each direction and thus 4x the number of pixels hence its name.

LCD's that can display this resolution exist and so do the cameras (just they are rare but so are 1080p cameras) the equipment was first shown a couple of years ago now.

However a transmition method is just a pipe dream for now. Infact going from a set top box to the screen is currently a headache since QHD requires around 1.4GB/s in raw data. which is more than HDMI and even dual link DVI can handle. This sort of resolution would push most modern pc graphics cards.
