Accessing My NAS From A Different Place!!
 
:erm: OMG, seems ive got a warning for pointless threads, i made this one. Right... on my network drive it says it can be accessed from different places that arent my house. Ho do i set it up and how do i acess it? :erm:

Unless your router can support being an FTP server you wont be able to

Read the manual for your NAS drive?

It'll probalby have some type of server built into it, ie FTP. If this is the case then you just need to forward the the required port(s) on your router for that protocol.

Not necessarily the case. If the NAS has its own built-in FTP server then you can just forward the appropriate port from the router to the IP address of the NAS.

True, but cheaper NAS drives dont do that. When the OP doesnt tell you what the NAS is or what the router is we can only guess, which is a pointless exercise.

Agreed :)

(Although mine was an 'el cheepo' one and it has FTP and a Samba server built-in. That means that not only can I transfer files, but I can dance whilst I'm doing it..... :) )

My nas has built in ftp, so does my router.
