Advice on Contract Mobiles (Upgrade or New)

I have a 18month Mobile with T-Mobile (Flext 25) I had it off Argos (via Dial-a-Phone) as it worked out at £15 a month (should be £25) via Cashbacks. That is all great. But 18months is due to end in November & I have never had Contract Mobile before so unsure of Upgrades or should I get new deal?

But if I wait for the 30 days to see what deals they can offer me, if I dont like the deals I wont have 30 days to cancel the contract & will end up with 1 month EXTRA at £25 (full price)

I do NOT want a New all singing & dancing phone. I like my D500 Slide phone (fits my needs & being disabled I can use it ok & like Slide Phones) All I want is £16 or less monthly bill (I am willing to pay £25ish but Cashback every few months to get overall £16 or less monthly deal)

Few Questions I have include....

1) What sort of deals would they offer me? I have asked & they say I cant findout untill the last 30days of contract as every deal is personalised to the person, so depends on my usage and stuff.

What sort of deals will T-Mobile offer? I am not interested in Web Phones or the latests models, as I said I want most minutes for £16 or less...

2) Only T-Mobile or Three have contracts for £16 or less.
- Motorola K1 KRZR - T-Mobile 18 Months £12.79 month (Total £230)
or
- Nokia 6288 - Three 18 Months £14.44 month (Total £260)

They have others available but these 2 are just examples of this months deals... Any other offers or Networks should I try? or Avoid? (is Three any good?)

3) Is the Nokia 6288 any good?

I hope a few who have had Cobtracts & Upgraded them can reply & advise me. At the moment it looks like I will have to get a new Contract as T-Mobile need a 30 day cancelation letter & I cant do that & find out about upgrades on same day. But am eager to hear your advice & tips :D

Cheers

I'd give them the notice that you intend to terminate the contract at the end of the period.
They will offer you a much better deal if you threaten to leave them! As they would rather give you a good deal than not have your custom at all!

About a year ago my sister did that to vodaphone and they gave her a new phone, more minutes & text for £10 less a month!

I'm currently with three and aside from them unable to get my addresses correct in there database (its ok when viewed online and bills et all work fine) they're good. My deal is better than any they offer at the moment (its £5 /month more for the exact same contract)

You are pushing the bottom end of the contract range, would a payg phone with the £10/month min top ups offer you a better deal ? (they throw in mins / txts if you agree to top up at least once a month)

I hope they will give me a better deal as I am not affraid of moving to a new network or new deal :p:

I have Flext 25 (thats £60 credit) or 300 Minutes per Month. I think I use 150-250 monthly. So £10 on PAYG would get me very LITTLE in Credit to Mobiles & UK Numbers :(

Assuming that the contract rolls over every month if you don't do anything to cancel:

Call them when there's a month to go, and ask for a PAC code. Explain to them that you've seen x deal somewhere else and ask them if they can match it.

They will. :)

If you're happy to keep your current phone, ask for a credit against your bill. They'll probably offer you just less than what you'll get selling the new handset on ebay.

So you say, 'OK then, forget the PAC code'.

You'll have to agree to an extra 12/18 months from the original end date of course.

Can't comment on the phones you mentioned I'm afraid; if it isn't SE then it's not good enough for me ;)

And everyone ends up happy :D

PAC Code would enable me to move my Number off T-Mobile & onto another network I guess? Can I then use my Phone Number to sign up to a NEW deal on T-Mobile via Dial-a-Phone (or any 3rd Party?) or only use PAC to switch Networks?

Is "Three" any good? I dont know anyone (family/friends) who use it.

I use 'Three' and I personally think they're great. I have 3 contracts with them and have several friends who I have recommended them to, and they are very happy with them too :)

Probably only to switch networks. But the people who give out PAC codes usually have more leeway in what they can offer

Re: Advice on Contract Mobiles (Upgrade or New)

Find a deal on another network that offers you what you want as this is a good bargaining position. Look on the networks' own websites as they usually have extra minutes/texts which you can't get through a dealer. Even if you don't really want to move to 3, say, you can at least tell them that it's too good an offer to miss. The problem might be if you want the lowest possible monthly price, they might not be too interested in keeping you as a customer.

When I cancelled a T-Mobile contract earlier this year they offered me a much better deal than Vodafone had (12 months @ £30), and with a significant discount off their standard contracts to boot (I can't remember the details but I was shocked at how much they knocked off), except they didn't have the phone that my wife wanted. Typical.

I'm not sure where they'd stand if you mention cashback deals to them. The cashback is part of the commission that the network gives to the dealer for getting them a new customer so they may well offer you a discount off the usual monthly price to keep you as a customer and not have to pay the dealer, but it might not be as good as the cashback.

If you wanted to get a new T-Mobile contract from a dealer, you wouldn't be able to use your PAC as it's the same network. You could PAC to PAYG on a different network and then PAC to T-Mobile but it's a hassle and you'd have to be on PAYG rates for up to a month or so.

As for paying an extra month's line rental at £25, this shouldn't happen. One month before the contract is up, phone them and tell them you want to cancel and are giving a month's notice. They'll then try to dissuade you and it's at this point that you tell them about another network's deal to see what they offer, which you can either accept or reject. If you're not sure and want to research it further, tell them you'll think about it and call them back later that day. You can either give notice or ask for a PAC but not both; if you ask for a PAC you must use it within a month otherwise the contract will continue. If you give notice and later ask for a PAC, this cancels the termination notice so don't get caught out: you must use the PAC.

Note that if you do want a PAC, T-Mobile ask for the remaining line rental by credit/debit card there and then i.e. £25. You should then use the PAC ASAP (same day if pos) as this will mean your contract with T-Mobile terminates ASAP and you get the maximum money back from them. (You'll need to check with them as to exactly what happens; I got the credit back onto my account as I have another phone with them.) The amount they want for the PAC reduces on a daily basis; if you don't want to pay for the PAC on principle, you'd have to ask for it on the day after the 12 months is up but then you would end up paying out for another month's rental and waiting for them to refund for the unused part of the month. A PAC normally takes 5 working days to process = 7 calendar days, so you might prefer to ask for it a week before the 12 months is up which minimises the amount you'd have to pay for it and stops them charging you for an extra month. Maybe give yourself a couple of days leeway to be on the safe side. IME, Orange and O2 don't ask for payment when you want a PAC so this might just be a T-Mobile thing.

It is, of course, a lot simpler if you don't want to keep your number! If you've seen a cashback deal with T-Mobile then the PAC is pretty much useless anyway.

I used to work for 3 before all the CS in Glasgow was offshored to India. I now work for O2 and will happily be able to get you a 30% discount on a friends and family tariff. You can get a SIM only deal called Simplicity and use that SIM in your D500 provided it has been unlocked from the T-Mobile network.

If you want more details then PM me and let me know.

That goes for anyone else up to 8 people.

Tariffs and details provided at link below.

SIMPLICITY

I can also mayube talk about handsets available dependent on your needs.

They useally knock quiet a few quid off your monthly bill if you renew and don't want a new phone. I have just renewed my contract with T-Mobile they gave me Flexit 25 (170mins) a free USB modem for internet on my laptop @ 1.8Mbs speed and 3 Gig of data for £18.00 a month for the whole of the 18 month contract. I was very happy with that.

Thanks SO Much for that GREAT Advice. I never knew about the PAC Code & 30 Day Notice so that was good reading for me. Cheers  Looks like I'll get a new Numbers (if I take out a NEW Contract)...

Were "Three" any good? Indian C/S does not appeal to me. But free eBay & MSN is something I liked the sound of :) Thanks for the O2 offer, I cant get new Deal untill November 23rd anyways as 18 months ends that day. So I'll see what offers I can get closer to the day. Thanks for the SUPER offer, but 30% off the £25 is still over my Budget sadly lol...

WOW, Sounds like a COOL Offer. Will see what they say when I ring them....

-----------------

Just thought of 2 New Questions :p:

1) Can I Cancel on Phone? or do these Mobile firms want a 30 Day Writen warrning?

2) Could I get my current T-Mobile SimCard switched to a PAYG after the 19 Months? or wont T-Mobile do that? So I keep number incase someone rings it or SMS me. ?

Thanks for all the AWESOME Tips & Advice, :D
