Gaming Server?

I have 4mbps/256kbps vm connection... would it be plausible to run a small gaming server with this connection? Would vmedia mind?

I've got an old computer which I want to use as the server. Its a P4, 512MB ram, 1.6ghz processor. Its currently running windows xp but I want to change that to a server specific linux OS, as I've been told that it would make better use of the resources available.

It would be for CS 1.6 and I only want to have around 2-6 slots but I'm not sure if even this would be achievable :erm:

Any advice would be great!

Thanks..

Thanks for the reply! I ran ubuntu on the computer and setup a small 8 slot server which doesn't lag =)

You might find that some have high pings but your actual gameplay should be ok. I have done this with CS:S and there were some high pings but the game played fine.
