Second pc to same modem
 

I have NTL cable internet connection. I formatted a friends pc which had problems and reinstaled xp. I need to get my friends pc online for updates and such using my modem.
My connection uses ethernet and will fit ethernet card to friends pc. What do I do next to get friends pc online ?

Fit the ethernet card to your friends PC

enable the windows firewall on the lan connection

power cycle the cable modem

attach to PC

when finished power cycle again before connecting back to your PC

Thank you mrmistoffelees .... you've saved me a lot of bother.
I had visions that the oringinal NTL disc may have to be used.

Just a thought, if your cable internet is provided by a cable modem then the above method will work, if however it is provided by a set top box you will need to provision the PC
