Help setting up wireless with Speedtouch 780 and virgin cable
Hi there!
I need help to set up my wirless internet, using a speedtouch 780 router and virgin cable. I have the installation CD that came with the router (and it definately works as it was all set up in my old flat on our old virgin bundle, i now have a new computer though) but when I insert the CD it instructs me to connect to the phone dsl thing? But i was told that the router could be directly connected to the set top box. I have tried but I think im doing things in wrong order etc and I could really do with a kinda lamens terms step by step instruction on what to connect to where and any additional configuration needed for the router.... help would be great, i've been trying to sort it for ages! Thanks! |
Re: Help setting up wireless with Speedtouch 780 and virgin cable
No. The Speedtouch 780 is an ADSL modem and Router. As you are using Virgin Cable, ADSL is not available via the Cable Network. You'll need a router that supports Cable connections, such as one of the Linksys WRT54G series.

Re: Help setting up wireless with Speedtouch 780 and virgin cable
I am also trying to set this up - surely it is possible to use the 780 as a router/switch?
Just now if I connect the cable modem to 1 port via ethernet cable, then my pc to the next port it just assigns the WAN IP to the PC, ie bridges the connection, meaning no other computer attached can access the net. Does anyone know how to configure the Speedtouch 780 to dish out IP addresses to the local network? Surely it's possible....?? |

Ok fair enough. Going to have a proper look into it this evening so I will post my results either way...
