hey everyone,

can someone recommend me a cheap wireless router?
it is for a present for my friend, and will mainly be used for the wii, and maybe a laptop (she may keep this a direct connection to the modem she got.

she is with BT and she has free orange internet if this helps.

I seen this for price:

Re: Wireless router

Depends on the 'free orange internet' bit.

She may already have a wireless router that looks a bit like an tent or open book spine up over. I'd check that 1st then look at a better brand such as this.

Draytek used to do one, but it's been discontinued.

May be as easy to by a combined ADSL modem/router...

would it matter what modem is used?

ik

edit: this is what will be used....

Laptop less than 5 meters away from the modem as it is.
Wii less than 8 meters away from the modem.
but want to go wireless as the wires are a nuisance when putting the comp on.

broadband with Orange but its free with the tarrif my friend has.

From the Orange website:

Quote:

How will I actually change my connection set-up?
You'll receive an installation CD with your modem which will automatically set up your broadband connection. If you want to keep using your existing modem, you'll need to change your username in your modem and computer. Your Orange Broadband username will look like this firstname@lastname.orangehome.co.uk. If you're not sure how to change it, please refer to the manufacturer's set-up guide.
So you can use a different modem or modem/router...

Before moving to cable I used a Netgear DG834G for a few years. I liked it & found it reliable.

Available for £42.99 from Amazon...

I bought this router/modem for my friend.

but I am having problems installing it..... it just wont do it.

I think its a problem with the ISP of Orange, cause I can't find any numbers it dials to.

it is a dial up broadband set up she got

I found a couple of pages on orange, but not many, they dont give out any numbers to dial into.

I am going to try again soon. but does anyone have Orange broadband and have they successfully changed modems to a wirelss modem router?

Does she not have the settings on the PC already from when she was just using a modem?

well I checked, she does but it only says dial 0 from country 44

I got her username and password fine, but it just wont see the net at all.

the modem wont install.
installing wired then going to go wireless.

Has she got the CD still to reinstall?

Link

Not that she's got new hardware, but it shows you can reinstall the settings from CD...

Re: Wireless router

Have a look here for Netgear support info. You need to choose your version, is it 3 or 4? I'd guess 4 if it's brand new...

[Edit] What do you mean by 'the modem won't install'?
