New user V+ queries

I have just come from the world of TiVo and have some queries on the V+ operation. I'm probably looking for features which don't exist on V+ but lets give it a try...

1. What happens when it gets full?
2. If it auto-deletes recordings then is it a simple first-in first-out algorithm or can you control how deletion works?
3. Can you tell it to keep or prioritise some recordings?
4. I read that it has padding - does this work like soft padding on the TiVo?
5. Can padding be done on series and globally as well as individually?
6. How do you tell how far you are through playback for a programme that is still recording. I miss the TiVo bar :(
7. If you are recording, is there any way to switch (quickly) between watchever programmes are being recorded and live TV?
8. Can you programme the remote to control the TV (I didn't get a manual).

Thanks,

Mark B

You can only program it to do the volume if I remember correctly?

padding is automatically applied and you can only change it globally i think

i miss philips whoooooooooooping 6 hour record buffer
i miss not being able to navigate the buffer - with V+ you have to watch everything backwards/rewind before watching it forward - how VHS is that? :)
i miss not being able to record/save anything from the 'recorded' buffer (Can you beleive that? - i know you wont but just try it)
i miss not being able to browse thru menus without dumping the whole buffer (no rewind)
i miss not being able to switch channels without dumping the whole buffer (no rewind)
i miss not being able to search the EPG by name or genre
i miss not being able to dump a recording at high speed to DVD

i gotta say V+ is great improvment on VHS (or DVD-R) - but if you ever had a proper PVR before, it stinks

Thought this didn't show the duration for currently recording programmes? I work away from home so can't check ATM.

Gulp, not encountered that yet but it sounds pants.

Really, it can't do that?

Surely it doesn't lose the buffer when you go into any menus? What about when you still have the mini TV display on view?

Agreed.

Right, this will get me to live TV but will it cycle between all 3?

Sounds like your Philips is pretty close to TiVo in functionality. Great how a 9+ year old piece of kit still beats V+ and Sky+ hands down for functionality.

I actually used to work for TiVo in the US. It was a hard sell trying to explain what a PVR was in 2000...
