Sky sports football
Hi,
Can anyone tell me whats going to happen with prem football on sky sports this year ? As i understand it if you want to see all the games you will have to subscribe to both sky sports and Setanta - will the cost of sky sports come down then or will it remain the same ? And what about Setanta ? Can you pay for individual games or a monthly subscription. For a monthly subscription of £10 just to watch when your team (chance are once only) is on is criminal, it was high enough when sky sports charged £8 prem plus. I have to say that I am finding the rising costs each season a pain in the ass, its not enough that you pay for sky sports but now you could be spending a futher £80 a year to watch 8 games on Setanta. |
Re: Sky sports football
AFAIK
You are correct that to see all the Premiership matches you will need to subscribe to Sky Sports and Setanta. Setanta is subscription only for a minimum of 12 months, there's no option to pick months or games. The £10 is also only an offer for Sky and Freeview customers, for Virgin it's £15 per month. You can subscribe via broadband for £7.99 a month or £79.99 per year. I agree it's a rip off and will personally be looking at other ways to see those games such as the many P2P re-broadcasting services like Sopcast. |
Re: Sky sports football
dont blame vm and sky mate...blame greedy premiership footballers who dont give a damn about people like you because all of the money is going into their pockets!! english football is awash with money yet season ticket prices still go up and tv prices as well... i love football and im glad when i see young kids who make it and get paid well because they deserve it but the average players who still get 5o 60 grand a week are killing the game... wake up and smell the coffee , they dont care about me and you..:td:

Re: Sky sports football
Blame? Who mentions blame
Wake up and smell the coffee ? Ask yourself this - Why charge for premplus games when you have a subscription fee for sky sports ? If blame is to be allocated then try the broadcast companies, Football association and us who are willing to pay these inflated prices. |

Re: Sky sports football
personally i would prefer to pay just to see every game of my team every week rather than suffer most of the dross that is the premiership... am definitely not gettin premplus this year as i usually fall asleep during those games... you lot down south may think its the best league in the world ,its certainly the most exciting but iv watched it since 1993 thru cable and sky and apart from the top teams its dull and its become a 2 horse race , remember when you lot used to say that about scotland ,funny old game aint it lol..... time to pull the plug

Re: Sky sports football
What the problem is, being a football referee,on a Sunday l have seen some real talent, and they PAY to play, the greedy footballers,is the problem of the clubs who pay this disgraceful fees for the player,no player l don't care who they are, are worth millions of pounds, being a Spurs fan, the fee they paid for Bent, was a disgrace (no disrespect to Bent), the fans have to pay for this in entrance money,TV companies are to blame also, with Sky paying a billion for 5 year contract, but paying 9.99 per month is not bad, or 26.00 for VM,also the players wages l can't understand £80.000 per week,to me it does'nt make sense.

Re: Sky sports football
Spurs paid stupid money for bent because west ham made a bloody stupid offer and inflated his price. we would have got him for about 3-4 million less otherwise. Thats football. we could have still said no.
and i dont blame players for being greedy because if someone offered me 60000 a week and i didn't think i was worth it i wouldn't be saying " no its ok take some of the money back i'm really not that good". when the clubs get their heads together and decide enough is enough then players will have to take what they are offered. Lol, but its never gonna happen. have a good one ArthurGray i think we'll do alright this year mate COYS |
Re: Sky sports football
It seems with the recent floods that sheff wednesday are struggling to find somewhere to play. I didnt believe this until I saw their latest team photo.

Setanta have now put on the front page of the website that there is no minimum contract for Sky, Freeview (TUTV) or broadband but don't mention Virgin. Confusingly, having re-read their T's and C's, they state a minimum 12 month contract but only refer to Sky in the small print. Personally, I wouldn't want to keep cancelling and re-newing Setanta when there were matches on you wanted to see, it would just be an open invitation for VM to mess your bill up big time! |
Re: Sky sports football
I don't see what peoples problem is. Sky now have MORE games than they previously had, so for your sky sports subscription you're getting More matches. At extra cost there was Prem Plus, an extra 42 or so games per season at extra cost.
This year there is no Prem Plus or Pay Per View. Those games have gone to another channel, Setanta - strong competition to Sky in the future i'd hope. With your setanta subscription you'll also get 80 or so Live Blue Square Premier matches (Conference) plus the Scottish Premier league. They also show matches from Europe (France, Germany and i believe Italy) Then they have a dedicated Golf Channel for the Golf fans and Racing UK. Also, between now and the start of the season they are showing a whole bunch of pre-season friendlies. As a Spurs fan i'll have seen 4 spurs games before the season is even under way. People need to get out of thinking they can pay individually for games, as under the new TV contracts the Premier League didn't make that an option. This isn't the fault of "Greedy Footballers" or Virgin Media or Sky. See it as competition which can only be a good thing long term. On the subject of greedy footballers, Justin Timberlake has just been paid 70 million dollors for a world tour. It'll take him about 9 months - the same as a football season. Name me 1 player that gets 70 Million dollors (About 35 million Pounds) per season. Footballers are in the entertainment business too. Actors, musicians and sports people, they're all entertainers. |
Re: Sky sports football
I've taken the decision (much to my husband's disgust!) not to pay yet another sports subscription and get Setanta. Paying for Sky Sports is expensive enough without forking out another £15.00 a month. And quite frankly most of the channels on Setanta I wouldn't be interested in watching anyway. It's all very well the EU deciding to offer more options but all this means is yet more money for greedy corporations. The so called increased competition has not led to lower prices for the consumer.
If the EU want to be any use to subscribers I would like to see them look into the issue of 12 month contracts which I believe are a complete rip off. People's circumstances can change through no fault of their own whether through redundancy, illness or whatever and you should not be penalised so heavily if you need to cancel, especially if your financial circumstances change. |
Re: Sky sports football
pay for what you want, sky can't have everything and i'm glad they dont have all prem matches.
