Its probably a misconfiguration in the settings.

Most routers are a nightmare when it comes to this. Wireless is ****ty for 20mb on 54g, you are pretty much going to have to have a near perfect connection to maintain it (considering these devices top out at ~22-24mb/s).

I have also personally found Linksys routers to be a horrible experience, when they don't work properly, I've been through too many to count and have had too many times where performance has seemed to have disintegrated over days to the point of the router nearly dying only to come back to form again. If I had the money to get rid of it I would :/

Nope, some routers will not handle 20Mb, you end up with sub 10Mb speeds. There are many threads on the same subject here on the forum.

I always knew DD-WRT was clunky which is why I made the switch to Tomato long ago.

Just a headsup, as the title is quite misleading. Routers aren't causing problems on the VM's side of the network, only the users side (in some situations).

I use a IPCOP router with a pent 3 processor and 2 x 1 gig cards and i still get pants speeds. I have now official been told my area is on the books for a reseg or card change :). So its not always the router.

And yet personally i could achieve almost 80Mb/s with my DD-WRT VERSION 5 (You know, the supposedly crap version?) WRT54G. It's all a case of setups if you have a 100Mb WAN port and a decent CPU in the router.

Out of curiosity, Bill C, why do you need such power for a router? Your max WAN speed is 40Mb/s. (Well, to the interweb anyway)

I think you mean WRT54G V5.

Read the bit after my brackets mate, i'm well aware it's a WRT54G. Hmmm, my ordering of words isn't the greatest i admit though :p:
WRT54G Version 5 running DD-Wrt <- for clarity ;)

I've got a Linksys WRT54G vers 2 running on their own firmware rev 4.20.8 and seem to get full speed OK.Newsbin Pro shows me consistently d/loading at 18.3/18.5 megs.

Maybe some settings... or maybe some bug ..

Now i have updated to DD-WRT v23 sp2 (reset defaults) and all seems to work fine.

Cheers
