3 year old girl snatched in Nigeria

It'll be interesting to compare media coverage of this tragic event with that devoted to the McCann case. It's likely that the motives are money or political but let's hope it all ends well for the family involved. |
Re: 3 year old girl snatched in Nigeria
I see the cinema chains are refusing to run the Madeline McCann trailers.

Re: 3 year old girl snatched in Nigeria
Apologies in advance for going off topic, but I believe that Odeon removed the films because of complaints over the language used, in particular the word "snatched".
I'm not sure what is worse... the fact that some people were offended and complained over the choice of language, or the fact that Odeon bowed down to such pressure. |
Re: 3 year old girl snatched in Nigeria
well I dont think she will be in cinemas for a while......
so why? plus, I still don't know why the media are not crucifying them over the fact they left their kids...... I hope I never see a trailer in a cinema or I may walk out, if this is harsh I am sorry, I feel they are now trying to use this as a way to keep themselves in the limelight and be kid on celebs... ik |
Re: 3 year old girl snatched in Nigeria
When any child is taken it both sickens and saddens me and i hope for both the sake of the little girl and her parents that this has a happy outcome. On the mccan case i believe the parents should be charged with neglegence they knowingly left their children alone while they went for a meal not even hiring a babysitter. Had they been a single mum from a council estate the press would be slaughtering her by now but as these were middle class professionals all is ok. I don't have the money they do but i would never leave my kids alone in a foreign land so i could have a quiet meal without disruption. I hope in that case as well it has a happier ending though sadly i fear it will not.

This might not neccessarily be a bad thing for everyone. Her Nigerian kidnappers are said to want hundreds of thousands of dollars in ransom money.
Now seeing as we all know how hard it seems to be to transfer money out of Nigeria, I propose we all keep an eye on our email inboxes very very closely.... |

Re: 3 year old girl snatched in Nigeria
Agree totally! The media haven't seemed all that interested though - perhaps they've decided that the plight of abducted children is yesterday's news.

Re: 3 year old girl snatched in Nigeria
No it won't help this situation but it would send a clear message to other parents that it is not ok to sod off for a meal leaving your very young vulnerable children alone in an apartment. If they hadn't done that we wouldn't have this situation and maddie would be home safe and sound.

On the topic in question - I'm very glad to hear that this little girl has been freed, although it's distressing to read about the 'trance like' state she was in when they got her back, and the fact that she was covered in mosquito bites. :( |

As for the media not making the news - well I have to say the media often 'sex up' and even create stories where none exist. That'd be why the libel courts are so busy. |
