MSNBC newscaster attempts to burn her script rather than read out a story about Paris
In a move that vaguely reminds me of the film Network in which a newscaster stops reading the news and yells "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!", newscaster Mike Brzezinski decided to mount her own protest at the thought of using the Paris released from Jail story as their lead story.
First, she refused to read it. Then, she attempted to burn the script. Finally, she shredded it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAcU3HSMKPU This shouldn't surprise me, but what surprises me is that her colleague appears to say she is no longer a journalist because she doesn't agree that the Iraq war is less important than the ongoing adventures of a thin, irritating, blonde rich girl who's only talent appears to be appearing in Celeb mags. |

Good, unprofessional but I agree with her. Having that as a lead story, the fact that someone who is famous because she is famous is out of jail is not a lead story.

Good on her, nice to see someone with common sense :D

I'm hoping that the 2 male newsreaders were just trying to wind her up. It doesn't say much for the NSMBC news programme bosses though to give Paris Hilton's release from goal a higher profile than the news about downsizing troop numbers in Iraq.

Re: MSNBC newscaster attempts to burn her script rather than read out a story about P
I have to admit, I think they were winding her up, but I also think it is wrong that Paris Hilton's escapades hit the news at all, let alone lead story.
Still, they (and we) do seem to be dumbing down the news. Another example of this is the increasing coverage of TV programs and films on the news. Sorry, but the fact that Alan Sugar has fired someone on a TV prog is not, IMO, news. Similarly, the fact that Tom Cruise/Will Smith/Jennifer Lopez/<insert name of random star here> has released a film is also not news. |

I thought you were referring to the city not the person... in which case I would have said the newsreader was an idiot, but as it is, I think she deserves a round of applause.

Its like one of those Breakfast style shows though. Were they all sit around quite casually and pretend they like each other and talk about recent events in the dullest way possible mixed in with laughter and jokes. So it loses its impact in a way.

Hmmm, lets make a 20 second lead story [that 90% of the population know about anyway] into 3 minutes + worth of news that'll get uploaded to YouTube and talked about all over the internet.
