username not getting validated?

Hi,
I have worked in the computer industry for a long time so when my mate told me he was having lots of trouble connecting to virgin I took a look. I have tried 2 machines now, 1 vista, the other xp and just cannot get a connection. He was sent a new netgear adsl router, similar to mine and the setup looks ok, I can see the connection speed but when I try to connect it just tries to establish a connection and just stops. He used to have a speedtouch 330 modem, so I tried that and it tries to connect the just fails. The log from the speedtouch connection shows it trying to connect 7 times then failing with the username/password. I tried to get some sense from the tech support but as I wasn't my mate, they refused to speak to me. Is their anything special I need to change for this particular connection?

regards

Carl

How have you formatted the user and logon?

Have you tried @virgin.net appended to the username if you're just typing the username on its own?

If all else fails, you could just pretend to be your mate...

Which would probably, legally speaking, be a slightly grey area which I doubt that CF could condone ;)

I was using name@adsl.virgin.net. strange thing is though, I could log onto his account with virgin with the same username and password with no problem!
