Linksys WRT54GC - a good bet?

Hi folk. Does anybody have any input on this router? http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/90827 , The Linksys WRT54GC Compact Wireless Broadband Router 4 Ports 802.11g

For the last year I had a Belkin which began dropping the connection with any spike in network activity. Eventually it bricked. A friend gave me this strange beast http://www.etec-components.co.uk/PT-845G.html which actually works perfectly happily with my ex-ntl cable connection, bar the fact I can find no way to get into it's configuration pages and so can't secure the network. Would stick with it if I could work out its actual IP addess.

So, is that Linksys a good bet? I don't need much range, just ease of setting up and use or does anybody have any guesses about the e-Tec?

Check your network connection properties - the "gateway" probably is the IP address of the router.

Would only recommend the WRT54GL (L for Linux) lots of support for this one with 3rd party firmware etc bit more expensive and out of stock

i have had nothing but problems with belkin routers for clients home net connections. I will only install Linksys, Netgear or Dlink now... and recommend all three brands... i use the dlink dl-624 with no problems since purchase 2 years ago!

As for the etec... do an ip config and check the gateway... should be that one...

The problem is that the default gateway (86.xx.x.x) times out, as do all near neighbours of it. The documentation tells me it should be 128.blah.blah.blah but nothing in that range works wither. Is most odd. Have restored factory settings and all the rest of it.

try 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 :tu: most routers use those two addresses.

or from a bit of gooooogling...

10.0.0.2 or 10.0.0.1
