Need help to fix problem

Greetings

I've finally been able to identify my wired router as being the limiting factor in getting 20mbps. When plugged directly to the cable modem, I've been able to get speeds of 15mpbs+, but when connected to the router, only achieve less than half that speed of around 7mbps. It's a wired Belkin Cable/DSL Gateway Router ( http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/belk...-30108658.html) . Do I have to turn something off/on on it to to speed it up? If so, what do I turn off/on?

Thanks

chances are its only got a tbase 10 wan port you may need a new router the newer linksys models are favoured

Info says it's a 10/100 base tx, so you might need a firmware upgrade. I would check the website to see if there is one.

Alternative is to buy another router such as a netgear, you could get a wireless 4 port router for about £50

First router I had was a Belkin and would never buy one again (always had problems with it). I much prefer the Netgear ones.

The manual states Tbase 10/100 lan but isnt clear on the Wan

Ive seen the linksys for as little as 27 quid with wireless on offer

Ok ive found it for sale saying it is a 10/100 wan but im getting a feeling of deja vu here dunno if its the same router though

Got the same router, am almost certain that WAN is only 10 Base-T. I suspect this since the manual states that for the LAn lights, different colours represent diferent conneced speeds, whereas the WAN light doesnt support different colours, it only indicates connected or disconnected. Mine only allows 7.5Mb/sec through as well, incidently so it's a bit shy of 10 Base-T

What we need is a sticky on the forum which has compatability list for routers and the XL (20Mbs) package once some models have been identified as being suitable for XL or not.

I got led on my own investigation in this other thread:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/87...or-router.html

Think I might go nuts and get that gigabit capable Linksys :)

Thanks for the info Jackson. Did you mean that the internet light only shows 1 colour? I don't think WAN has anything to do with it.

No, meant the WAN LED. This light indicates whether a live device (in our case, a modem) is plugged into the WAN port (which the outside connection to the internet passes through). The connected/internet LED (according to the manual I have here) indicates whether connection is established to the internet. Besides, each of these only have one colour LED in them so neither don't suggest more than one connection speed is detetcable.
