Having trouble accepting a loan agreement. I need one form of ID from the provided list. I sent back a copy of my latest P60, feeling certain that I'd used a P60 before. But it was sent back. I do have a provisional photocard driving license, which I had to plead with my optician to sign. My optician, who I had known for years, died in a car crash, and the new optician didn't know me - though the receptionist did. It was her leaning on him and me looking desperate that convinced him to sign. However, the license has my old address - but address (location) is not part of my identity, surely? But the bank said that the license would not be acceptable. I sent a copy anyway, for want of something better. It was sent back this morning. So that leaves my Coding Notice from the nasty tax people. Turns out they had my address from years ago - I'm supposed to keep them informed, but no one told me. So I'm waiting for my Coding Notice to arrive, and have sent back the driving license to have the address updated. I took a look at the passport application. The fee - a whole £66 - is incredible, but what is more incredible is that I may have to provide details of my parents' nationalities, may have to attend an interview, and will have to have someone sign my photographs and provide their passport number :shocked: Who's going to do that?? Incredibly, the advice is to give your form, complete with payment, to that person, so they can complete the form and post it. So that's a form complete with all your personal details that could be used to steal your identity. Hmmm. Incredible. It's almost as if there's a conspiracy to force people to use Identity Cards.

Had a similar problem while trying to open a business bank account. I don't have a passport or drivers licence so it became tricky. The ONLY other thing on their list of acceptable ID's is a UK HM Revenues & Customs Tax Notification form showing a 10 digit Tax ID... Now, I phoned the tax office up to ask if they could send me one. They said yes... BUT that I'd have to request it in writing. Sigh. So, I've written to the tax office, but have not heard anything back yet :(

It's daft how that because I don't have a drivers licence or passport I am struggling to prove who I am.

It's mad. You sit there thinking, "I know I'm me. I am me. I've been me for years. Friends and colleagues know I'm me. But how the hell do I prove it". Just absurd.

Strange thing is, if we were terrorists, we'd have 6 passports and 4 drivers licenses by now :rolleyes:

Closest I've come to this is sending my passport off to get a visa. The embassy sent it back by post, but I wasn't around when it was delivered. So I had to pick it up at the post office. One little snag: I needed photo ID. Passport or driving license. I didn't have a driving license, and they wouldn't let me open the parcel so I could present my passport. Barstewards!

But to get something that proves your identity, say, a passport, you need to prove your identity :erm: But if you could do that, you wouldn't need the passport :spin: :rofl:

True, but to get a passport, I just need my birth certificate and some signed photos (and the new interview). So, with just that, I can get a passport that would get me into loads of countries around the world, but, I can't get a bank account to put money in! Insane madness this is :disturbd:

Yes, but I don't see why I should have to. If I want to go to another country, I'll get a passport. In addition, getting a passport costs money and now with the introduction of the interview is even more time consuming to get.

When you just need to open a bank account, it's annoying that I would need to cough up £60+ for a passport to prove who I am.

Ok, I see where you're coming from. Look at it this way though: you need to jump though a few hoops to get the passport, but others will be impressed by your hoop jumping ability. If you get the passport it will be a lot easier to prove your identity.

Also, you say when you 'just' need to open a bank account. Bank accounts can be misused in many ways. So it kind of makes sense they want to make sure who they're dealing with?

Yeah, true. But it just feels like I'm being penalised for never having got one.

True. But I just hope that when the government get ID cards out there that all this madness will end and that one single card will be all you'll need... :rolleyes:

All I needed to open an account [with Halifax] was a couple of bills to prove my address and something to prove who I was (I think I used a letter from the tax office, and my works id card).

I don't mind having an ID Card provided I don't have to pay an arm and a leg to own it...

and you forgot the best bit..., your personal data/information goes on the Govt computer system, and the protection of the Data Protection Act goes out the window as far as that database and unauthorised data shareing goes.....

use the google-fu to find out more...

no,No.NO, thats when the madness really begins, the Govt and ID cards are BAD, check out all the reasons for yourself BEFORE you get behind them, seriously, google.

they keep trying to get them through any way they can, masses of law abiding people keep trying to stop them , ask yourself why that is!

You're lucky you've not been slapped with a £1000 fine for not updating your driving licence!!!

Can someone at work not sign your passport photos (when you get one) or a family friend, there's a long list of occupations, any professional should do - even the dodgy trade unionists!!!!:monkey:
