No browsing via router post-NTL
Up until the recent change to Virgin, I was operating a couple of PC's over a Linksys router without any problems. Since then, however, I can't get a working configuration. PC works fine connected directly to the STB, but when I go via the router (MAC cloned) I can ping IP addresses fine but can't see them through a browser.
Any ideas? |

Re: No browsing via router post-NTL
Hi,
I seem to get the same IP address using the PC directly and when I look at the status pages - 86.*.*.* ones - so I think that is OK. What do I need to do to check the default gateway? |
Re: No browsing via router post-NTL
You've done the obvious of rebooting the STB / modem when switching from direct to router connections? Your router should be set to autodetect for it's dns settings, and the same on the PC for it's IP stuff.

Re: No browsing via router post-NTL
OK It sounds silly but there are a few things to try:
Firstly look through the "Access Restrictions" page on the router config - this can sometimes inadvertantly activate a no-internet policy. Secondly untick the box labelled "Allow Anonymous Internet Requests" as a temporary measure, see if that works. Thirdly, try a different firmware on the router (latest from linksys) Fourthly, try a different router and see if it works on another router. Nick |
Re: No browsing via router post-NTL
If the OP can ping external internet sites properly then that rules out DNS problems and also internet connectivity problems. If you can ping a site then you do have proper conectivity. I'd be tempted to look for problems with the browser settings - you don't have some odd proxy address set up do you?

Thanks for all the replies!
I'll try again tonight, hopefully, when Mrs Arkady has finished watching Big Haunted Miami or whatever dross she dredges up on a Friday evening.... :) |
