Quick question on changing ISP.

I've finally decided to cut and run from VM now. Poor service speed wise, you're lucky if you can find someone in CS that understands English and basic problems (I had 1 guy reading the prompt on the screen, before every question he kept saying "Now ask the customer") but their inability to listen is what really makes me want to leave them.

I don't want to pay via direct debit. There's a good reason, but I wont go into it. Anyway, so I say no, and they want to charge me a £5er a month. Unhappy with that, I just say I'd prefer to cancel (as you do, cancel threats always get them offering stuff) and they waive it for a few months. Anyway, onto the present, bill arrives. Now not only are they still charging me (only a 5er, but it's my 5er you know) and they also claim i'm in a months arrears and I owe them over a ton for 2 months of the broadband alone (and nothing else). At most that should have been £90 correct (2x£39.99 and 2x5er) and on the phone they couldn't even understand my complaint, so I've given up.

Anyway, after the rant (sorry, long one) all I'm wondering is what now? According to BT, I can only get upto 512k on my phone line, but is there any thing else? Or am I doomed to either slow speeds, or poor customer services?

You could try satellite bb but it pretty expensive.

Check out http://www.samknows.com and enter your details in there - when you have entered them go to the BT ADSL section it should tell you your distance from the exchange. Please post that here and someone either myself or someone else will be able to advise you.

Alternatively so long as you don't mind just put your postcode up here and I'll do it for you.

Thanks!

No probs with that mate. Really thankful actually that you're willing to help.

It's LE6 0BA my postcode. I've looked at that Sam site, but no clue what it all means.

Results for your Postcode

Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.

The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Virgin Media (cable)

Quite a Long Way From Exchange :
You are connected to the Glenfield telephone exchange.

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services

According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 1Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

Standard ADSL RAG results:
You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You cannot receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
You can receive 256Kbps ADSL

You are approximately 3.03km from the exchange (straight line distance).

4Mbit tops I guesstimate regardless of service you take. I do mean tops too :(
