How to disable your proxy server?

Hi, hope this is the right sub forum?

I was on the virgin site looking at the online broadband upgrade,
It says the following when i try:

Unable to identify a cable modem attached to your computer. This may be because:
You are not connected to the internet using your cable modem
You are using a proxy server to connect to this site. If this is the case, please disable the proxy server and retry.

I am conected with my ntl250, so how do i disable my proxy? as i dont know what one is?
thanks

Then you probably don't have one, you can check at the top of the page by clicking on "connection"

OK I made the assumption based on that most areas are now running proxyless, regardless, you can't turn that proxy off anyway
