Netgear FVS318v3 throughput

Hi,

I have a Netgear FVS318v3 router and have been very happy with it since purchasing over a year ago.

I recently upgraded my contract with Virgin to 10Mb/s. I ran several speedtest at speedtest.net and found my download speed to be constantly around the 5Mb/s mark.

I removed the router from the system (eg plugged the cable modem directly to the PC) and ran the test several times again, I had around the 9.5Mb/s mark.

The router specs claims the LAN-WAN throughput is 12.5Mb/s. I'm a bit lost over what the problem is, I've upgraded the firmware to the latest version but still no joy.

Has anyone got a suggestion?

Are your LAN & WAN ports showing as connected at 100M?

Yes, the LAN and WAN lights are solid green on 100

If you have more than 1 ethernet cable have you made sure both are functioning correctly by testing both between modem and PC without router?

I see, I've tested one. When I removed the router from the system I simply unplugged the Cat5 from the LAN port and plugged it directly into the modem. It gave me near 10Mb/s so thats fine.

I'll test the other one and report back. Many thanks

Both cables tested, both give near 10Mb/s when connected directly from PC to modem. Still getting about 5Mb/s when router is involved.
