I'm laughing so hard!

A guy I know had trouble running games due to pauses in the game, artifacts and his system crashing when he'd installed a 7600GT into his computer. Now I know why - he had a 250 Watt power supply

But thanks for all the help in the other thread regarding his problem, now he's sorted.

Cheers guys:tu:

250 W? My graphics card at home has a 250 W supply dedicated to it.. Having said that, it is a GeForce 8800 and can quite easily consume 120W on it's own.

TBH, although mine's an extreme example (I bought the seperate power supply because my GFX card wasn't working on the machine's power supply, and this supply was cheaper), I wouldn't use less than a 450W power supply with a Geforce 6 or 7 series GFX card.

Yeah, he's going for a cheap 500 - 600 watt supply. I have to have a 650W supply in my old computer because of the enormous amount of overclocking going on inside it. And I'm only talking the kind of technology that can just about run Half Life 2!

I once went into a PC "specialist" store and asked if they had a 6-700W PSU for Chi's PC and was told that "No PC will ever need more than 300W of power" and that they didn't see the point in selling one. So we went to Maplin instead lol.

Have they ever heard of anything newer than a 700mhz pentium 3 with 128mB of RAM and an intergrated GPU?

Q-Tec = BOOM

Open it up and the caps will be FUHJYYU - they are **** and blow up.

A 600W Q-tec is as good as a 300W FSP.

IIRC, Q-tec are banned in finland because they are classed as a safety risk.

Buy a fire extinguisher. You'll need it.

No, but on this machine I have blown up a quality 500 watt supply ------> 80 pounds (Can't think of the brand right now)

Btw Zingle, when I mentioned that, I didn't mean that was my computer. It's much better than that
