i need one to convert 37 mins of non encrypted home movies off a dvd. has to be free!! ive only found ones that do 5 mins and then ask for money. please help!!

There is a very good/complete and FREE program just called SUPER. You can encode to and from almost any media type. It is also good for putting media onto mobiles. http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Thanks for that. :tu: It's a bit buggy in terms of dual monitor compatibility [keeps jumping back to primary monitor, & its video playing window just turns completely green if you try dragging that to the secondary screen], but it does a good job of converting files. Infact, it does a better job of converting .flv files than another app I have which isn't freeware. :)

It is a good prog. especially for encoding for mobiles phones/odd file types. :)

I've used SUPER for *years* and I wouldn't touch anything else :tu:
An awful lot of my friends have got this prog and one friend absolutely loves it! Her camera shoots footage in high-res .mov which takes up a lot of space on her memory card and she converts to .avi for want of a quiet life (and some space on her hdd) :D

Windows Media Encoder (Google it) will convert directly to WMV if the audio isn't Dolby 5.1. It's free anyway so worth a try if you don't know what format the audio is in. You'll need to select "all files" in the convert a file section of the program.

Also, M3 is a much better mobile converter than Super and has model based profiles to get the maximum quality out of the phone hardware.

I have compared different converters and I recommend MelodyCan.
It converts music and movies, and also can remove drm protection. The converter is easy to install and use.
