Help please netgear router & AOL setup
Hi there,
I'm trying to set up my girlfriends Internet and unfortunately she is with AOL. We got the ADSL netgear DG834 router and I have been attempting to set it up without success so far. I have checked most of my settings and believe I have tried everything. If anyone can help, much appreciated as some of the AOL reps on LiveHelp seem to know less than me when I've told them all I have tried doing. Basically I can connect to the router via 192.168.0.1 and it shows I am connected to it. It then tells me that it is attempting connection to the net at which it stops and asks for AOL settings. It is currently asking me for IP address, subnet mask, Gateway IP address, and primary and secondary DNS address. It says it is a static connection. I thought these were not needed and I cant seem to find them anywhere. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I really need it. I've tried the manual setup and that is not doing anything either even when I tick obtain everything automatically. Anyone see where I am going wrong ? Many thanks to everyone, halcyon. ---------- Post added at 11:43 ---------- Previous post was at 10:15 ---------- Update: All sorted. Thread can be closed. Problem was with the IP address and some settings that I had overlooked. Will teach me wanting to do it quickly with my eyes closed. :tu: all working well now. |
Re: Help please netgear router & AOL setup
Also AOL likes a different MTU value setting (or it used to) 1420 instead of the 1500 default iirc
