3 cable outlets in house, can modem go in any?

Hi

We have three STBs in the house: V+ box in lounge, and 2 normal boxes (one in each bedroom). Is it possible to connect the stand alone cable modem into any of the outlets (and for that matter can any of the STBs be plugged into any outlet i.e. move V+ from lounge into bedroom?)

Thanks

Out of sheer curiosity, can you therefore plug either a cable modem or STB into someone else's house (be it neighbour or miles and miles away)??

You can't, under the terms and conditions of service, and, I believe that it also won't work if you try it. It certainly won't if you go to a different street cabinet and possibly won't work if you go to a different house connected to that cabinet.

dcclanuk,it is entirely feasible to take your modem and stt to another cabled house with a couple of provisos.firstly they need their drop cable to be connected in the street cabinet, secondly, they need to be off the same feed, bromley or langley.the stt will work even if it has a different network i.d. (this differs town to town e.g. blackburn is 41068 bolton is 41060) but we have a box in the blackburn office that has the bolton network i.d. on it working perfectly.the modem mac address is logged on sabs and so similarly should work ok,its your equipment that youre paying for so why shouldnt you be able to visit other addresses and utilise your equipment there.sounds fair enough to me :)

stuart, they both work off the rf signal, this is the same signal off any street cabinet therefore your equipment will work.
