upgrading live account
 

Well, I finally did it, and got an xbox 360 over the weekend.. all I need now is to find the time to play it..

I'm just curious, if I set up a silver live account, can I upgrade it to a gold one later, or would I need to create a new account / gamertag? - I don't want to start a gold membership just yet, but I would like to download the updates - and keep the same gamertag

You can upgrade to a Gold account at anytime and keep your gamertag (just make sure you're happy with it as it can be expensive to change it at a later date if you needed to)

Look out for the free xbox live gold trial offers, you might have one in the box your new console came in possibly? you also get them from time to time with new game purchases.

Isn't that talking about original live accounts from the original xbox?

Yeah, I've got a trial for gold, I just didn't want to use it up until I was ready - all I wanted to do at the moment was just download the updates - which from what you say I can do

When you first register on Xbox live you will be given 1 months free Xbox live gold. After the month expires it will change to a Silver account. :)
