help please,upgrade toubles

I have been using ntl for the last 4 years(4meg) with no problems running multiple consoles ,recently we upgraded to 10 meg and this is when the problems began,i used a netgear rp614 router but thinking that this was the problem i upgrade to a linksys wrt54gr but im still getting the same problems(wireless turned off,not needed).
The problem is i keep getting different speeds when testing(varying from 1.5 to 9.5 meg) and when playing online we lag very badly + are now even unable to host any games,i have checked the nat on the router (open) + virgin say theres no problem at their end but why has this happened since having the upgrade, also the gamers im connecting to are the same gamers/friends that we have always connected to and previously never had problems (the host is on virgin 10 meg)
The 2 sites i used for the speedtests are speedtest.net(i get very poor results from) and broadbandmax(better results)
The problem seems to be very poor bandwidth because the games lag more on xbox live when talking,we use 2 xbox 360's at the same time + sometimes the pc,both xbox's have nat open

hmm, you've moved into the territory of the heavy users by upgrading to the 10 meg service. As there is contention between all users, if fellow customers are giving their services a pounding you will all see slower speeds, and this is borne out by your variable speedtest results.
