i am thick

hi folks whilst reading through the forums a lot of talk is about stb, as i have stated on my title i am thick,i dont have a clue what stb is or means could someone out ther please enlighten me on this subject.thanks.:disturbd:

Set Top Box which provides TV as well as BB (in some cases)
SACM is a Stand Alone Cable Modem that just handles BB

OK,

So - why is it a "set top box" when 99% of TVs don't have anywhere near enough space on top for it? - i'd guess far more people situate the box in a cabinet under their tv.

Probably since it's really an American item developed for use over here. Cable boxes have been around for ages in America and no doubt started back in the dark ages when TVs were big units with space for a small dining table on top of them.

I think a Flat Top Telly Box didn't sound right :shrug:

Although some might call their STB an SOB at times :)
