sky 16meg..r they sure?
my mate reckons!!
he`s getting sky 16 meg line..he`s been told our exchange will give him 16.5meg line..i almost fell off my chair with laughter.. he did point out that it was free now i know for a fact the the INGREBOURNE or ROMFORD exchanges can only serve the up to 8meg service.. Im on NTL 10meg looking forward to the 20meg upgrade..i will never ever go anywhere BT or SKY or BULLDOG or any of these silly leased line companies like pipex etc etc. can anyone tell me if this 16meg thing is possible?? or if theres a site to check it on? cheers.. |
Re: sky 16meg..r they sure?
unless he lives in the exchange i would say no chance, 8mb on a good day if your verry close to exchange, but his contract will say up to so there covered .

Re: sky 16meg..r they sure?
I could easily get near 16mb! Not a cable/sky fanboy, but I dont live in the farm's of remote wales!

Re: sky 16meg..r they sure?
so where did he get the `some bloke told me` i could get 16.5meg from..even on adsl2 line this isnt going to be possible! and for free?? im not even slightly tempted cos those old exchanges are all overloaded anyway!
16meg! i laughed at him and now he wont talk to me! TITTER! muppet ---------- Post added at 10:36 ---------- Previous post was at 10:33 ---------- im thinking that his line is `POSSIBLE` of taking the 16 meg but it never will..imagine in peek times when everyones on the utorrent or surfing of p2p or playing online games on there xbox360 or overlypriced ps3! its just not going to happen. |

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/ex...hp?ecode=LNROM Ingrebourne: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/ex...hp?ecode=LNING Both exchanges have Sky kit installed and therefore are able to offer an ADSL2+ service. I was with Bulldog before switching to NTL/VM and on their ADSL2+ service I got about 12Mb/s and I'm about 2km from the exchange. Bulldog advertised their service as 16M but if you're right on top of the exchange you can theoretically sync at up to 24M but BD (and Sky) advertise the service at 16M to reflect an "average" unlike Be who quote a maximum. In summary, 16M is possible but certainly not guarenteed. |
Re: sky 16meg..r they sure?
yeh thats all good..but im sure i should stick with NTL..i cant be faffed with sky tbh especially after my bulldog experience..
I prefer the direct cable modem option as well..and im sure the cable technology will be get better and better when they reach speeds of 50meg in some test. so stick with virgin? |
Re: sky 16meg..r they sure?
Yeah my advice would be, if you live in a cabled area, get cable. :)

Re: sky 16meg..r they sure?
im a bit miffed now..i laughed when he said he would be getting 16.5meg..should i get on my knees and say sorry?
im still not convinced about this `free` thing..how can they justify it..reel em in and whack em over the head once we have em! |
Re: sky 16meg..r they sure?
I'm on that sky package. I've literally just finished rewiring my phone line to reduce internal noise.
The problem we have in particular (And many others) is at night the noise at the line increases and the box needs to be manually resynced (rebooted) to restore the connection. I.e. you can get max speed during the day but at night it needs to be reduced. Also pings on adsl2+ seem to be worse especially if you get put in interleaved mode (which is sky's policy). My advice is, if you can get cable, get cable. On ADSL you are at the mercy of ancient copper cables. |
