Unsecure Wireless Question

Hi,

If you connect to an unsecured wireless router, is it safe to use online banking etc as thats encrypted?

Re: Unsecure Wireless Question

traffic is still encrypted on the website but it can be intercepted if you have the right stuff.

the more risk is that say some1 getting access to your puter.

Re: Unsecure Wireless Question

OK thanks Doc...so the traffic going from the client PC to the wireless router *could* be intercepted, but you would need the right kit / software to do it?

yeps mate :) but then all wireless signals could be intercepted even if it has wpa2 encryption..you just need the right programs (but those arent commercially available afaik only to say the MI's, NSA, FBI etc)

Re: Unsecure Wireless Question

Everything can be intercepted, deciphering it is another matter. Best to use WPA2 (although use a strong passkey) between device and router, and https for banking, shopping, etc. Belt and braces approach.
