Silent Calls 01895 204833

Been getting regular (3 or 4 a day for about two weeks) silent calls from this number on my NTL landline.
On ringing the number get a message about a company called ICT Group.
Does anyone know anything about this lot or who they represent and how to stop them calling!!!

First guess for someone that persistent would be a calling centre for someone. Some outbound calling centres use automated dialling services that guess when to dial and when an operator will be free to pick up your answered call. If the system is set too agressively you get a lot of nuisance calls.

Might be worth a call to Ofcom about it.

More information, including stuff on companies recently fined by Ofcom for this here.

Found more info specifically on numbers giving a message about ICT when called back here

Thanks for the info, did a google and found http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/f...1173193018/0#0 if it is a Barclays Bank company it may be worth a call to Watchdog as well after the BBC One Whistleblower programme about Barclay's naughty mis selling techniques!!

You can register your number on the The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and this is meant to stop sales calls from the UK. They legally have to check if your number is on the TPS list before ringing you as they will get fined if they don't.

In my experience this works however it won't stop those calls from India!

Quote:

Welcome to TPS Online.

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) helps you to make sure your telephone number is no longer available to organisations, including charities and voluntary organisations who may telephone you with offers and information you do not wish to receive

Under Government legislation introduced on 1st May 1999 and replaced on 11th December 2003 by the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, it is unlawful to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to individuals who have indicated that they do not want to receive such calls.

You can either do this by contacting companies directly and asking them not to call you or you can register with a central register - the TPS.

You can also register with Silent Call Guard on the phone -

If you have been troubled by calls where the phone rings but on answering there is no one there, you may wish to register your number on the Silent Callgard Service on 0870 4443969.

These calls are generated by automatic dialling equipment which dial more numbers than there are operators available to take the calls.
Registration is free, apart from the phone call cost and last 12 months.

Or anywhere else in Europe it seems. I'm getting regular (every Saturday without fail) calls from some call centre in Germany (I think, from the accent) representing some company wanting to sell me a mobile phone and various other crap I presume.

I'm trying my best to get the call centre person to give me a UK postal address for the company they're representing, as that might give me someone to aim the relevant stink + itching-powder bomb at. So far they just hang up the moment I start going down that line of questioning.

Bizarre thing is they'll happily call me up a week later. Maybe I'll have had a Damoscene conversion, I'll no longer be a totally ****ed off individual who they've hassled once a week since Christmas, and I'll have seen the light and suddenly will want to buy their goods. Because I really appreciate a company that gives me all that sort of attention, and I think it should have some of my money. Who are these people?

</rant> Thank you for letting me get that off my chest :)

... or if what they are doing is not sales, or covered by the Act which created TPS.

it helps to stop the bulk of calls, but some calls can still be made to TPS numbers - for example, if you opted in to a list by (not) ticking a box saying they could(n't) contact you, or if the company is not doing sales (eg market researchers) though occasionally out of goodwill they will screen and say that you have expressed a preference not to be called and not call you but there's no obligation.
