Every 2 or 3 days (often every day) in the evening my internet connection falls , so i have to restart my router after that internet is fine. What is the problem and how to solve it ?

Are you sure it's the router? What happens if you are connected (one computer only) direct to the modem?

What have you got running on your network in terms of computers, software applications etc?

I have to say I have MAJOR problems with this router. I lose internet every day. It works if i plug cable from modem direct into pc but wont go "through" the router. Hit and miss it comes back eventually.

THEN i lose the internet upstairs. The wireless link sees the access point but cannot connect to internet.

Can anybody help please??????

Re: WRT54GS - problem

Do you have the current version of the Linksys firmware on the router?

Presumably you have secured the wireless so nobody else is hijacking it? Might be worth trying an alternate wireless channel too to check there is no interference.

What cable modem do you have. What applications are you trying to run - P2P (torrents) can cause problems.

Re: WRT54GS - problem

Folks

I also have a Linksys (although its the WRT54G). I had similar problems, until I flashed it with the DD-WRT firmware. My problems have disappeared and I also have improved features and functionality (one of the best is the ability to adjust the transmission power of the router. You'll find other posts discussing this on here, however for convenience have a look at these

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Re: WRT54GS - problem

Very interesting - Now I was online gaming on Monday night and the connection dropped - I checked the modem and rebooted - OK. I went to the router page (WRT54GS) and it was on the firmware page stating it was in management mode. Looks like it had lost it's firmware completely. I reflashed it with the Linksys latest I had and it's back up but it does seem prone to connection freezes now for some reason. So my question is -

I have a V6 and I understand that I can only use the DD-WRT Micro FW on it.
Is it as simple of going to the firmware upgrade page and flashing it from there? It's just I saw on another page I might have use something called vxworks_prep_v03 ? prior to the flashing - is this correct???? as it looks a little daunting.

Thanks in advance

Re: WRT54GS - problem

Yes, as you're running the v6 of the router, you'll need to use the vxworks_prep_gs_v03 before you flash it with the dd-wrt firmware. It's not complicated, and doesn't take long to do at all.

There are step-by-step instructions on what you need to do here... http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owb...?WRT54G5%5FCFE (scroll down to the section "For the WRT54GS v5, v5.1 and v6 ONLY").

However, it's worth noting that for the GS routers, this process can not be undone, so there's no way of going back to the Linksys firmware if you change your mind.

Thanks for that Gareth - I'll have a read and give it a go. I really haven't got anything to lose as it's only a couple of months odl and I can't find the receipt so it it bricks... no loss really if it's faulty anyway.
