Need advice to replace: Linksys BEFW11S4
Hi,
I just recently got a Linksys BEFW11S4 to remplace my old Linksys BEFSR11 plus an independent access point (i am a cheap guy both came free ^_^). But I found some issues with the "newest" one: total loss of connection, slow down of the wireless randomly, difficulties to keep the static routing and then difficulties to reset those to the previous settings. Long story short: I want to remplace this crappy device (imo) that is taking too much of my time to my liking. I was considering a Belkin and a neatgear, as I am greatly disappointed by my latest network device. But i found myself with an outdated knowledge concerning this field. My current home network is including 3 desktop computer plus 2-3 laptop connection throught wireless. I need a device enable to the standart 802.11g at least. I am gaming online on a regular basis, but doing some P2P as well and I have a softmoded xBox which is networked to distribute medias from all the computers to the TV sub-system. My current connection is a former Telewest (newly rebranded Virgin) cable connection in 2Mb/386Kb . I felt I had some networking issues since Virgin took over Telewest, but now I feel it might actually be the router that caused the lag in the first place. Anyway, I would really appriciate some advice on which router with wireless I should consider to buy as to replace that Linksys. Regards Tam |

Untill very recently I would have suggested the Linksys WRT54G series of routers, but I'm seeing signs that many of these don't, unless you install third party software, support P2P particulalry well. On the other hand the WRT54GL (linux model) is designed specifically for third party software, so that should be OK.
