LCD TV & Cable TV.
 

I recently bought an LCD TV and have found that any dark scenes such as the interrogation room in Law & Order on Hallmark are very dark when received via a set top box. I was wondering if any adjustments are made to the STB for brightness & contrast during installation. I ask because I never had the problem with the old CRT TV and I don't have a problem with similar scenes when played from a DVD.

Change the output type between from RGB to Composite in the settings menu, and the scart lead needs to be plugged in the composite scart socket on the TV.

Other than HDTV channels, the screen quality wont be that of DVD - the quality of picture isnt particulay great on some channels, E4 especially.

Nature of the (TV) technology AFAIK......

Brightness, colour, contrast, black levels, etc etc will not be the same on an LCD as on a CRT.

I'd just play around with the levels on the TV if I were you. Can you give each source its own settings?


When I got my HD Ready LCD in December, the default colour/contrast/brightness ranged from average to awful depending on input source. A bit of fiddling later, & I now have excellent - & separate - colour/brightness/contrast settings for each individual source....Sky, Freeview, Xbox360, etc.


Why composite? That'd be much worse than RGB.

I'd stay with RGB, & just adjust the settings on the TV.

I could well have meant RGB.

I know its one or the other and its ages since i set mine up...

you are lucky because i know that samsung lcd tvs some dont work with either the pace or samsung units.. there appears to be a problem they tend to show only in mono or very blurred vision. considering a sumsung tv can cost up to 2k and when connected to a sumsung cable unit does not work proper. you would have thought sumsung tvs and cable units would be ideal partners.
