Dlink router - ip address revert to 1.0.0.0

Hi - My first post so apologies for any incomplete protocols.

The problem is that when we load any url name eg Google, the dns reverts to 1.0.0.0. If we load the ip address for the url it finds it. We tried ipconfig /flushdns, although that fixed it for a time, the problem has returned and the flush no longer is effective. We haven't tried loading explicit dns server ip addresses, as probably Orange in India wouldn't know what we were talking about, even if they were prepared to tell us. The issue is the same with Windows Firewall on or off (no other firewall).

We have checked the Windows XP 2 tcp/ip settings/protocols (dns auto) and they are the same as for the problem PC and this one (on a different network/router) and probably most other PCs.

We have a new Dlink wireless adsl modem router DSL-G624T, and am wondering if there is a setting within Dlink that we need to think about, can anyone tell us?

We have set up the router okay using pppoa, 0/38 - originally the adsl connection was via a speedtouch 330 usb conenction so we know the adsl line is okay.

If not does anyone have any other ideas - eg a nasty piece of virus/spyware? (scanned via AVG and adaware SE - now clean (but wasn't)

Re: Dlink router - ip address revert to 1.0.0.0

Are you using the router to give you DHCP IP addresses. If so ensure that the DNS servers recommended by your ADSL supplier are included in the router configuration, or use some that exist on the Internet.

i.e. 194.42.224.130 & 194.42.224.131

Yep - Thanks for your speedy input, sorry I knew I would leave something out!!

DHCP is operating as it should allocating the ip addresses to clients and gateway okay eg ipconfig shows
192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.0.1

I am loathe to put in explicit dns server addresses for as already mentioned Orange are not very forthcoming on these matters, and the process of change they are going through right now they probably would change them without telling us. And anyway using auto should be sufficient?

PS I wouldn't choose Orange out of cloice but not my decision.
