flashing modem

The modem light on my Scientific atlanta STB keeps flashing,
it packed up the day Virgin took over & left us just with the basic 5 channels & a message that the card was not inserted properly
we had a new one a couple of days later. Now this one looks to be going the same way :confused: any ideas what could be wrong
