New Samsung Cable Box does not operate with Infrared Repeater
Hi,
I have seen other posts around compatability issues but a lot seem to fade out without any result or solid conclusions. I am hoping some bright spark will know a way to fix this issue or point me in the right direction. I have used a Triax infrared repeater system for quite some time to allow the cable box / dvd etc to be controlled in the lounge from the bedroom. Previousl,y I have had to include a redeye translator on the front of the Pace cable box as my pace box used IRda (black Ntl remote) which would could not be repeated or taught to to most learnable remotes. Last week, I got the old Pace box replaced with the slightly more current Samsung SMT-2110C. This uses the blue NTL remote on RC5 and therefore I do not need to use the red eye translator with the Samsung box. Problem is that my Triax link injected IR system just doesn't seem to want to talk to the samsung box. I played around with the positioning of the emitter in front of the Samsung fascia (up close and from a distance) for an hour or so and best I could do was turn the box on or off once or twice. The system still controls the DVD and other IR components faultlessly. If anyone know how to fix this or what the compatability issue is I would really appreciate some guidance. Please? |
Re: New Samsung Cable Box does not operate with Infrared Repeater
I think it is a known issue with the Samsung Boxes. The only digisend I could use on mine that would also opperate the remote was a Digisender Gold.
I beleive the samsungs use a different type of signal to standard IR remotes. |
Re: New Samsung Cable Box does not operate with Infrared Repeater
The Pace STBs used an IrDA type of remote signal. The Samsungs use the more standard IR (RC5) signals. Devices made for the Pace STBs tend not to work with the Samsungs.
When my Pace got swapped for a Samsun I found my Digisender would work, but only by precise positioning of the remote controller. If the remote was pointed directly a the sender unit, it would fail. Angling it indirectly so the signal bounces around the room seems to work. I've got used to that but is seems odd. The transmitter is postiioned about 2" from the front of the Samsung. |

Thanks Rob and MRM1 for replies and indeed you a probably right. The Issue for me is knowing which repeater systems, if any, will work (and why) with the Samsung box. I didn't buy my system specifically for a Pace box and as explained I used it with a red eye translator so it never carried IrDA. It carried the required red eye frequency set which I think was a philips RC6 code plus it controls other standard components (DVD, VCR) on RC5. I guess the point is that there is no obvious reason why it doesn't work and it will be a lucky dip to find any other repeater system without a guarantee of compatibility which you rarely see without other comments such a from a forum..... Re: New Samsung Cable Box does not operate with Infrared Repeater
2110C works with `one for all SV 1000` from argos, cheaper than a digisender gold and ok with the V+ silver scientific atlanta explorer 8300DV box which has been installed. hope this helps.

I use a Technika bought from tesco for about £20 I have the IR sender sellotaped above the first channel digit seems to work fine there but this is a 2100C box.

Re: New Samsung Cable Box does not operate with Infrared Repeater
Thank for replies. All very helpful. Only thing is the method I use for a repeater is an injected IR feed into the coax which is broken out to a mini emitter on the front of the source component in the lounge. This is how the triax system I used in the past works.
I liked it because it was neat (no extra cables besides coax) and no large transmitter to be placed in front of components to provide coverage. I do not have any space to place the transmitter in front of my Hi Fi / TV rack. I wonder if any Forum users have used a cat5 or preferrably injected RF repeater system successfully? :) |

Yup same here works for my Samsung box as well (the older one that came after the Pace). I would recommend them, though never seen them back in Tesco's again. |

The Tevion one that Aldi sells works with a Samsung box
