netstumbler/nmap

helooo peeps....
its been a longgg longg time! got busy moving, packing up, tidying n a painful wait to have internet...
but am back, with virgin media. had to let go of my beloved aol...nuff said!
i am having truble with windows wireless network detection software. when wireless is on, and i restart my laptop, or take it out of hibernate, or off standby, the balloon pops up saying wireless network detected. but when i open the wizard, it doesn't show anything. even after refreshing!
i have tried netstumbler with positive results. it detected wireless network!n showed the network as well.
but does anyone know how to resolve the windows issue or of an alternative to netstumbler!
am not altogether convinced with net stumbler and am not sure whether to try nmap!

also, i spoke to someone in ireland who has cable internet. she told me that she can use the netgear dg834g on her cable line. anyone know whether thats possible or does ireland have a different cable system from england??

cheers ladsss....
ah its soooo nice to b bak online

Nope that router will NOT work as a router on NTL, nor would it on any other Cable Network, it might however act as a Wireless Access Point which would allow you to use the NTL internet on 1 PC only

and how would you do that? it might actually be what i need really. At the moment we have 2 wireless enabled laptop and a pc with an ethernet card.

i don't fancy spending much so if i can use it to connect to my pc and have wireless on my laptops then that shud b great.

anyone got anything on the wireless wizard issue? i cnt understand wher the problem lies unless there are some corrupt files!

On mine there is a setting on the web page to turn into a Wireless Access Point (avoids routing etc) does yours have that?
