Second Box? Channels?

Hello.

I was going to pose this question to VM, but I thought it would be better to get some informed opinions about it.

I currently have L TV and phone, and XL BB.
I am interested in putting a second box downstairs for my mum, who has Freeview and is sick of the bad quality picture and stuttering.

I want to know, how much it would cost to have a second box? I am not interested in V+, as I wouldn't use it, and £20 extra per month is not something I want to pay out for.
Would she be able to watch Discovery Channel on the cheapest package? (She loves "How it's made" and "Time Team")
Is there any installation costs?

Answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated :dunce:

The second box will receive excatly the same channels.

You can only have one V+ box per household

if you have a second box it costs £15 pm & you get the same channels as the 'main' box.

here is a comparative channel listing

not sure about installation costs...

Okay, thank you for the help.
I have spoken with mum, and she thinks that £15 a month is too much to pay, what with the water rates going up etc. So for now I'll pass.

Thank you very much for your help. I may need it again in a few days when I post my bill up here (I need help going through it, I am lost!). Just waiting for my new camera to arrive :)

Mechanicus, I think I'm correct in saying that if you go for the VIP package at £85 per month (although in the present circumstances you may be able to negotiate a better deal!), you would get a V+ box and they would put your present box downstairs for your mum at no extra cost at all!

The value of the £15 increases with the number of services taken with the 'main' box - if you have XL TV, full Sports & Movies, for example, it is much better value than (say) if you have a size L TV package, only. (or worse, size M).

I'd have thought it fairer to teir the second box according to the TV pack taken, say £5 for size M, £10 for size L & £15 for size XL???

Re: Seond Box? Channels?

Well, I'm currently paying £17.50 for 10mb BB (half price for 3 months, then I'll renegotiate), and £22.50 for Phone/TV. As I say, V+ is pointless for me - I don't leave the house enough to miss programs! :D
To have V+ would cost an extra £20/month (£15 for V+ and £5 for the second box).

I still don't know what is happening with my TV/BB, as I have a couple of reasons why I want a discount (No Sky One, Slow speeds downloading outsite of UK being the main 2). I'll see what they can do for me with that before I decide about second boxes.

Where does it say that. I beleive they are looking to keep the ability under wraps as demand for the v+ is very high but it is not a definitive rule:erm:

I thought that the second box was £9.50 now? (£5 if you had V+)

They still charged me £15, we have had ntl from when it was Cable and wireless, so I can phone them and ask them to change this?
we have the phone line rent as £11
itemized bill £1.00
tv XL £20.50
additional box £15
movies 4,5,sports 123 and extra £23.50
broadband L £25.00.
I am going to stop the movies which we only got for Sky sports and cut down the broadband to M as this was fine when we first had it and the 4mb did not seem to add that much. The phone we do not use enough for any package yet. So this will cut down the bill a bit more.
I'm happy Virgin took over I already have a moblie phone from them and used to be on Virgin dial up before going with Cable and wireless.

Soory I'm sure i read here that you could only have 1 V+ box per house (this might have been NTL customers only)
