VM or Sky ?

Guys,

I am new to the forum and I am in a dilemma. I am in the process of moving house and was keen to come back to Telewest (or VM) particulary for there BB service which I had for 2 years before I moved to a non cable area - it was fantastic. I have arranged to have the BB and cable phone service installed and decided also to have the TV XL package also done rather than stay with Sky - this has been arranged for 16th March however the events this week have made me think twice about it. I am drawn towards the HD offering that Sky has - I am a big football fan and have heard the footy looks outstanding in HD but the cost of Sky's HD box puts me off. I have read a lot about the V+ box and it sounds really good but I really don't know what to do.

Can anyone offer any advice ?

I'm not going to go down the Sky vs Virgin route, but i have the V+ Box which is free and to me the upscaling the box does looks almost as good as proper HD.The footy i have with Virgin looks awsome.

thanks for your input - yes the fact that the V+ box is free is another factor that draws me VM

I have Sky & BT + ADSL (Virgin.net as it happens) these days because since I moved house I have been off-net. But if by some miracle they ever cabled up to my house I'd go back to them in a flash. Cable offers a *lot* more than satellite.

Despite the fact it's free i think the upscaling is the most important thing. Free upscaling makes everything look good, not just the HD content. Don't know if i can emphasise that enough really. If you know anyone with a V+ Box, ask to take a look.

think i'll stick with the V+ box and installation that I have then - March 16th - I have read lots of good things about it

Thanks again

Re: VM or Sky ?

I have a question similar to the first post on this thread.

I moved house about 9 months ago when with telewest, received a new 12 month contract to sign. As i was not happy with signing a new contract (i was with them 3 years at previous address), I did not sign my contract and send it back.

Following Sky 1 and sports news being taken off I am very miffed, I watch sports news religously (in vain) as a newcastle fan always hoping there will be a massive breaking news story, and one of my favourite shows, "lost" now not on.

I wonder where I stand on cancelleng my contract as I have not signed this.

Any views ?

It's been announced this afternoon that if you wish to cancel your contract, you may, as long as you do it before the end of March 2007.

Have you had the software update yet?

I got V+ installed on Wednesday, and I have to say, I am very impressed with the User Interface and the facilities on the box (and I have a techie background).

I'm looking forward to getting my V+ box next weekend.
I hope it will have all the latest software updates. Anyone have any hints that I should check before the engineer leaves?
I think someone mentioned to make a note of the STB serial number that is being returned, just in case there is a problem.

It's all pretty smooth to be honest mate, just check to make sure your channels are there, you don't have to wait for them to be put on! (any channels that is)

Plus, there are some updates, so let the box settle for a bit while it downloads the updates. Giving it hardcore use whilst it's trying to update itself won't help!

Thanks - I shall make sure the engineer doesn't leave until we've checked all the channels are present...

I wonder if they'll have the new corporate logo on the van and uniform.....?

The chap who came round mine had the jumper but not the van! Felt sorry for him cos his laptop had just broken, so he couldn't hit the box himself.

Slight problem with the "cancel Contract" you have to have TV only. If you have Broadbeans and Phone like me.......then stuck!.......girl on the phone sounded nice until.......she gave me that bad news....roll on 7 months 24 days 7hrs and 16 mins :-(
