Not very happy with HD dislay...
 

..after all the headache of setting it up, the 'HD' aint perfect...tiny pixels are visible on my TV :(

I have a HDMI cable plugged in, and the picture is really nice (on most channels... most of the time :-P) BBC HD is really nice.

Have you tried changing between 720 and 1080? Are you using composite or HDMI? Are you even using a HDMI cable? :-P

Its connected via hdmi to dvi cable 1080i..And yes i do know there is only one hd channel on virgin tv.

Not all HD programs are pure HD, the one to look out for is Torch Wood in the BBC HD loop, if that looks Grainy when they are showing the scene where its raining with the dead guy they bring back to life then somthings not right with your setup, ive also noticed that if you use 1080I for your dispay and your watching a NON HD program its looks awful you can see the scan lines all through the picture.

ive also been told that BBC's HD isnt the best anyway, and that Sky's National Geographic HD is when they show a TRUE HD documentary its supposed to be mind blowing.


Oh and im using Component at the moment as ive got my pc connected to my DVI socket and i cant be arsed changing over when i want to watch tv or use the pc. ive also checked if theres a diffrence in pic quality between DVI and component and theres no diffrence what so ever ( apart from i cant watch HDCP content ) but who needs Films when you have torrents ;)

I have just had the V+ installed and the HD pictures from the BBC are out of this world on my 43" Pioneer. The BBC VoD has lots of good material to test out your connections. I have it on 720p Wide as it looks marginally better than the 1080i Wide. Also I am using HDMI for the connection, I originally had an expensive HDMI cable, but there was no difference between that and the free one that came with the V+. Also the SD stuff is upscaled and has approx 30% better picture quality (in my eyes anyway).

Early HD ready tv's don't support HDCP so you won't get the full effect from HD content no matter how expensive the cable is. You wont get a picture with a better resolution than 720p no matter what you do.

Prozac is right, not all materials on BBC HD are really HD, lots of them has been recorded many years ago, even 30, these are upscalled up to 720.

HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, a copy protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of intercepting digital data midstream between the source to the display. Due to the increase in manufacturers employing HDCP in their equipment, it is highly recommended that any HDTV you purchase is compatible. Although most video devices support high-definition video over component output, analog connections are scheduled to phase out in the future or possibly forced to limited resolutions output.


If your TV doesnt support HDCP its more likely that you would get no picture at all through HDMI/Component.

You can watch all of the HD channels and the on Demand HD without the need for a HDCP tv, its only the encrypted material that says you need to use HDMI with HDCP to watch.

that's a good point..because when watching DVD's on my TV, the image is not grainy, it is spot on....so it must be the source of the programmes.

Which programmes on BBC HD are 30 years old?

Everything they have shown on that channel (or at least what i've watched) are new programmes shot in HD! :shocked:
