My personal preference has always been Linksys, I've been using the WRT54GS for going on a year now and it hasn't let me down yet.

Re: Best Router

ive been using the belkin 54g 4 port F5D7230-4 wireless for the last couple of years with no problems,
when i used it as wirless it managed to broadcast ok from 3rd storey of my house to the ground floor at the back of the house .
but ive turned off wirless function now (not because of performance issues) and have 3 pcs cabled to the router , everything is fine, never had a problem with this model.

I would definitely go for the Linksys WRT54G range. I find the signal great all over the house but if you get a weak signal you can always flash it with DD-WRT which I would recommend anyway... :)

Go for the linksys and flash it, seems to be the router of choice here.

I think this is the one I'll go for

What do you mean by flash it? What will this do?

Re: Best Router

"Flashing it" means updating the firmware (the software version in the router). Doing a google on DD-WRT shows that it is a third-party firmware update that could improve the performance (and other stuff) of the router. However, updating the firmware with a third-party version will probably invalidate your warranty, so think carefully before doing this.

If you need more info, do a web search on DD-WRT and you will find loads of details.
